Raskin 2.0b17 (01.11.2013)
With this release we're introducing sandboxed Raskin giving users the possibility to grant access to the entire file system or just individual folders.
An Apple requirement for all new major releases in the Mac App Store, sandboxing of applications allows them to only perform a specific set of expected operations. These limitations are enforced by the system's kernel. While it may seem that Raskin would need to request broad entitlements to read and write files, that isn't necessarily the case. Any action initiated by the user, such as dragging a file onto an application icon, can open the sandbox, granting the application access to that specific file.
- After first launching this update, you may choose to grant access to your startup volume which includes access to all other volumes as well, also removable drives and server volumes.
- Alternatively you may choose to give Raskin access to only a specific folder on your volume. To do so, press Cancel in the initial dialog. Your current Surface arrangement will be lost and you can add individual folders to build a new Surface.
At any time you can launch Raskin while pressing the Option (ALT) key to rebuild your Surface (Factory Reset) and then choose some other folders.
Everything else will work as it did before.
We are happy to receive any kind of feedback about Raskin Beta, don't hesitate to use the built-in feedback dialog. Big thanks to everybody for your feedback so far!
